Sony Announces ZV-E10 Mirrorless Camera; More Info at B&H Photo Video

Sony has released the ZV-E10, a sleek mirrorless camera with a vlogging-specific feature-set.

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–B&H is excited to announce the Sony ZV-E10, a compact and portable mirrorless camera with a feature-set optimized for vloggers and content creators. This APS-C-format camera blends many of Sony’s successful photo and video technologies with an updated physical design, intuitive handling and connectivity, and improved audio recording.

Sony is positioning the ZV-E10 as a transition point between its compact ZV-1 vlogging camera and sleeker APS-C mirrorless cameras, such as the a6400. The ZV-E10 splits the functionality of these two lines, as well—it takes the vlogging-specific design (and naming convention) from the ZV-1 while borrowing the imaging platform, body design, and lens mount from the Alpha system. By combining the two, the result is improved image quality with an optimized feature-set for content creation.

In terms of specs, the ZV-E10 sports an APS-C-format 24.2MP Exmor CMOS sensor, which is large enough to achieve more cinematic-looking shallow depth of field effects, along with improved sensitivity up to ISO 32000 and low noise for a clean image quality with a wide dynamic range. The sensor’s design also incorporates a 425-point Fast Hybrid AF system, with Real-time Eye AF and Real-time subject tracking, and enables specialized shooting modes like Face Priority AE, Soft Skin Effect, while generally promoting healthier and more natural-looking skin tones.

  • 0″ Side Flip-Out Touchscreen LCD
  • 425-Point Fast Hybrid AF
  • Up to 11-fps Shooting, ISO 100-32000
  • Real-Time Eye AF and Tracking

  • Directional 3-Capsule Mic and Windscreen
  • Headphone and Microphone Ports

This sensor pairs with the BIONZ X image processor, too, which helps to achieve fast 11 fps continuous shooting as well as UHD 4K 30p video recording with full pixel readout and 6K oversampling. HD recording is supported at up to 120p with full-time AF and AE, and electronic image stabilization is also available to help steady shaky footage, such as when walking while recording. Additionally, the S-Log3 gamma can be used for improved dynamic range control and easier color grading adjustment during post-production.

Beyond the sensor, one of the most important attributes of the ZV-E10 is the focus on audio recording, specifically with the inclusion of a built-in directional 3-capsule microphone and the inclusion of a wind screen to promote more natural and clear ambient recording. The ZV-E10’s Multi-Interface Shoe also supports a digital audio interface, is compatible with a variety of Multi-Interface Shoe-mounted external mics, and has both 3.5mm mic and headphone ports.

As a camera optimized for vlogging, the ZV-E10 features a number of handling details and specialized modes carried over from the ZV-1. There is a dedicated Background Defocus button and a Product Showcase setting, both of which help to achieve commonly used effects in a simple and direct manner. The camera also has a vari-angle screen that flips out to the side for easy front-facing recording that doesn’t interfere with mics attached to the top plate or become obscured if using a gimbal or other attached mount. In addition, the body has a front-facing tally lamp, dedicated movie recording button, integrated zoom lever for use with compatible lenses, and the screen has a surrounding red border to clearly indicate when a recording is in progress.

Finally, as vlogging can very much be an on-the-go type of medium, the ZV-E10 is a well-connected camera, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, along with UVC and UAC standard support for use as a webcam by simply connecting the camera to a computer or mobile device, like the XPERIA 1, via USB-C.
