Dimitri Vallein receives an O’Shaughnessy Fellowship to complete “The Day I Met You,” a science-fiction short that films its actors in three dimensions using 4D Gaussian splatting.
GREENWICH, Conn., Sept. 24, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — O’Shaughnessy Ventures LLC (OSV), an investment firm that empowers creators, has awarded an O’Shaughnessy Fellowship to Dimitri Vallein, a filmmaker and technologist based in Paris.
Vallein will use the fellowship to complete “The Day I Met You,” an immersive science-fiction short film that brings quantum physics into an intimate story about love, choice and the nature of reality, made for both cinema screens and virtual reality. He is capturing actors’ performances with 4D Gaussian splatting, a technique that surrounds performers with about 200 synchronized cameras and reconstructs their movement as a photorealistic three-dimensional image a viewer can walk around, rather than as flat footage fixed to a single camera angle. He then places those performances inside digital environments. Over the next 12 months, he plans to finish the film and pursue an international festival premiere.
Vallein is building Revery, an entertainment company developing original stories for film, games and immersive formats. His animated short films have earned more than 40 international festival selections. Previously, he built augmented reality experiences on Meta’s Spark AR platform for brands and artists, including Netflix and Dua Lipa. His work has drawn hundreds of millions of views across social media.
