Kinetic by Windstream Expands 300-Megabit Internet to About 1,700 in Montezuma, Deep River and Barnes City

MONTEZUMA, Iowa–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Windstream, a leading provider of advanced network communications and technology solutions, today announced the completion of a major broadband upgrade for parts of south Poweshiek and north Mahaska counties served by the company’s cable TV network. About 1,700 homes in Montezuma, Deep River and Barnes City now have access to 300 megabits per second (Mbps) high-speed Kinetic Internet.

At an investment of roughly $75,000, this boost to rural broadband demonstrates Windstream’s continued commitment to improving speeds in the markets it serves.

Windstream is proud to raise the maximum Internet speeds available in Montezuma, Barnes City and Deep River, and what we’ve seen is homes that subscribe to higher Kinetic bandwidth fill it out with new technologies like video doorbells for security, smart lighting that can cut electric bills and virtual reality headsets for gaming experiences that are workouts, too,” said Brad Hedrick, president of Windstream operations in Iowa.

Residents are now positioned for next-generation Digital Age connectivity, which includes the capacity for high-bandwidth consumption across multiple devices. According to a forecast from Cisco, the average U.S. home may contain as many as 13 connected devices by 2021. With 300 Mbps Kinetic Internet, a family can download songs in as little as two seconds, download HD movies in minutes or stream shows in HD in different rooms.

To mark the Internet speed upgrades, the Kinetic team is hosting an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 108 N. 4th St. in Montezuma. Customers may stop in to discuss new devices, services and technologies, consider their connection opportunities, and enjoy complimentary refreshments provided by Windstream.

There are more than 550 Windstream employees in Iowa.

Windstream is deploying a variety of improvements in Iowa, from fixed wireless connections and fiber trunklines to software enhancements, to meet our rural customer base where they live,” Hedrick said.
