Hyundai AutoEver’s Vehicle Software Platform Achieves Top Global Functional Safety Certification

  • mobilgene® Adaptive by Hyundai AutoEver Earns ASIL-D Certification
  • ASIL-D is the highest classification of international functional safety standard certifying safety of automotive electrical and electronic systems.
  • Hyundai AutoEver earns its fifth international standard certification for vehicle software, propelling its vehicle software business in the SDV era.

SEOUL, South Korea, Feb. 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Hyundai AutoEver (led by CEO Kim Yungoo) has obtained the highest classification of international functional safety certification, ASIL-D, for its vehicle software platform, ‘mobilgene® Adaptive’.

ASIL (ISO 26262) refers to Automotive Safety Integrity Level. This international standard verifies the safety of electrical and electronic systems installed in vehicles. Established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 2011, ASIL aims to reduce risks caused by the malfunctions in electrical and electronic systems. The ASIL rating is determined based on whether OEM and component manufacturers have established reliable procedures, methods, and tools throughout the entire development process of automotive electrical and electronic systems.

The global certification organization, TÜV SÜD, conducts evaluation and grants ASIL certification to qualified companies. The ASIL standard, as defined by the ISO, is divided into four levels: A to D. Among these levels, ASIL-D is the highest and the most stringent level. To achieve ASIL-D certification, an automotive electrical and electronic system must demonstrate not only a low likelihood of failure but also a significantly reduced probability of leading to an accident even if a failure occurs.

Following its ASIL-D certification of mobilgene® Classic in 2021, Hyundai AutoEver now has obtained the same certification for mobilgene® Adaptive. mobilgene® is Hyundai AutoEver’s proprietary standard vehicle software platform developed for Hyundai Motor Group. Currently, the platform is used in all vehicles mass produced by Hyundai Motor Group, including Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis.

A vehicle software platform serves as a system similar to a computer operating system (OS), integrating and controlling the internal communication system and functions of a vehicle.

Hyundai AutoEver’s mobilgene® vehicle software platform is divided into two versions: mobilgene® Classic and mobilgene® Adaptive. mobilgene® Classic is a software platform designed for controllers based on microcontroller units (MCU)[1]. Alongside, mobilgene® Adaptive is optimized for controllers requiring high-performance computing, such as connectivity systems, infotainment systems, and autonomous driving systems, which rely on application processors (AP)[2] capable of handling large volumes of data at high speeds.

This marks Hyundai AutoEver’s fifth international standard certification related to vehicle software. mobilgene® Classic has obtained A-SPICE CL3 certification, which verifies that development process and quality, as well as ASIL-D certification for functional safety. Additionally, Hyundai AutoEver’s vehicle software development system has received CSMS (Cyber Security Management System) Level 3 certification. CSMS certification ensures that a company systematically manages cybersecurity risks throughout the entire vehicle software lifecycle from design and testing to post-production. Furthermore, Hyundai AutoEver became the first company in South Korea to obtain SOTIF (Safety Of The Intended Functionality) certification, an international standard for ensuring the safety of autonomous vehicles.

With this certification officially recognizing the safety of mobilgene® Adaptive, Hyundai AutoEver plans to continue supplying a vehicle software platform optimized for the Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) era, striving to meet the evolving demands of its customers.

Kim Yungoo, CEO of Hyundai AutoEver, stated, “By leveraging world-class technology and product quality, we will continue strengthening our business competitiveness in the SDV era through the development of a customer-centric vehicle software platform.”
