Nationwide events featuring 66th Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, filmmaker Ken Burns, and thousands of others will highlight the power of civic education, culminating in the Civic Learning Week National Forum co-hosted by the Center for Revitalizing American Institutions at The Hoover Institution and iCivics
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., March 7, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Thousands of Americans from all walks of life will take part in events across the country that show how civic education can strengthen and unite this country during Civic Learning Week, March 10-14 2025.
Condoleezza Rice, Director of the Hoover Institution and 66th Secretary of State of the United States, will headline the Civic Learning Week National Forum co-hosted by the Center for Revitalizing American Institutions at The Hoover Institution and iCivics on March 13, 2025.
During Civic Learning Week, thousands of everyday Americans will join local, state, and national leaders, educators, and students in dozens of nonpartisan events that demonstrate support for civic learning and that show what a 21st century civic education means.
Civic Learning Week also includes a series of national events:
- The Civic Learning Week National Forum, March 13, 8 a.m. PT/11 a.m. ET. Sec. Rice will be joined by John B. King, Chancellor of the State University of New York, General Jim Mattis, U.S. Marines (Ret.) and 26th U.S. Secretary of Defense, Sharon McMahon, “America’s Government Teacher,” and others for a daylong discussion on how to build pluralistic civic education.The event is open to media in person and via livestream.
- A special fireside chat for educators with Ken Burns about his upcoming PBS series on the American Revolution, March 12, 5 p.m. PST/ 8 p.m. ET. Register here.

The week will be marked by the release of several new pieces of research, proclamations by governors across the country establishing Civic Learning Week, and the founding of the Justice Sandra Day O’Connor Prize for Excellence in Civic Education, an annual award that will honor one exemplary teacher for their dedication, innovation, tenure, and a commitment to effective, nonpartisan classroom instruction in civics.
