Lexington Christian Academy Students Meet With Top College Representatives

Earlier this school year, the College Advising Department at Lexington Christian Academy (Lexington, MA) hosted its second annual College Night 2017. The event provided juniors and seniors from LCA, other area schools, and the home school community with the opportunity to interact with admissions representatives from an impressive cross-section of some of the finest colleges and universities in New England and beyond. In total, 20 schools participated in the evening including Boston College, Babson College, Brandeis University, Colorado College, the College of the Holy Cross, Connecticut College, Emerson College, Fairfield University, Liberty University, New York University, Northeastern University, Pennsylvania State University, Quinnipiac University, Tufts University, UMASS-Amherst, UMASS-Lowell, the University of Connecticut, the University of New Hampshire, Villanova University, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Traditionally, college fairs offered by high schools are impersonal events where students walk up and down rows of tables in a crowded gymnasium stopping just long enough to pick up some promotional material and maybe exchange a brief greeting with an overwhelmed admissions representative. College Night at Lexington Christian Academy, however, was a very different experience. Featuring a panel discussion, small group presentations, and question and answer sessions, the event was highly interactive and informative. Moreover, it provided students with a unique opportunity to explore, learn and connect in a meaningful way with admissions representatives who, in many cases, read their applications.

“College Night was great," said Rob Scaro, LCA's Director of College Advising. “After the success we had last year, we were thrilled to be able to make the event even bigger and more engaging for our students and their families this year."

LCA parent Carolyn Stevens was particularly impressed with the format of College Night. “It's different than your typical college fair in all the right ways-more personal, more informative, more fun. We really liked it!"

The event was also extended to students outside of LCA. Home school student Anna Cuddeback also enjoyed the event. "I have visited many college information sessions and College Night at LCA was by far the best. It felt far more personal than any other session I've attended, and it was incredibly helpful to have a chance to interact with admissions officers face to face."

LCA parent Keith Cerci appreciated the diversity of colleges and universities in attendance at College Night. “I liked the mix of schools. Most kids don't know exactly what they want to do in college, so it was great for them to see so many different options. There really was something for everyone."

“There were a lot of colleges that I'm applying to at College Night," said LCA Senior Eddie Bianco. It was convenient to have them all in one place. Plus, the reps were friendly and easy to talk to."

Boston College representative Danielle Wells shared the enthusiasm of parents and students about the event. “College Night was a great event that was helpful in providing students and families with an opportunity to learn about and engage with a variety of schools."

Navigating the college application process is challenging, but events like College Night help to make things easier for students and families.

Lexington Christian Academy is an independent college preparatory school that exists to educate young men and women in the arts and sciences in the context of a complete commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
