Business Development Firm, The Avalon Institute, Charts New Horizons in Leadership with the Wired to Lead™ Podcast

The Avalon Institute is a 21st century advisory that specializes in creating positive leadership models, professional coaching, and effective business strategies, all supported by cutting-edge neuroleadership assessments. In 2018, the company successfully launched the Wired to Lead™ podcast available on Soundcloud and The Avalon Institute channel on YouTube.

The show is hosted by Avalon partners Cameron Gott and Perry Jobe Smith and each segment features a roundtable discussion with invited business leaders, athletes and entrepreneurs. Premier guests have included Avalon partners USAF General John E. Michel (Ret.), Division 1 quarterback Christopher Lum and endurance athlete Kiko Matthews.

This week, Gott and Smith interview Brigadoon Founder Marc Ross and gain insights into his passion and thinking behind the creation of this unique and much anticipated business leadership conference from February 25-27 in Sundance, Utah.

To follow is a brief summary transcript of the featured podcast:

Avalon: When was Brigadoon established and to what end?

MR: Our first conference was in 2013 and we had 8 people. At the core, Brigadoon was a simple idea. Bring a unique, global network together in a distinctive setting that intellectually and physically challenges all participants. In our 6th year, we continue to meet at Sundance Resort in Utah with an exciting program covering three days. This year, we are expecting 38 attendees.

Avalon: Can you explain the format--it's not really a formal conference, is it?

MR: Brigadoon is an opt-in, word of mouth event for a true community of leaders looking to learn from others interested in creating a foundation of individuals committed to public service, solving problems, and building businesses. This said, all Brigadoon events are more retreat and less conference.

Avalon: You intentionally hold the gathering in a more rustic setting--can you explain the benefit of that?

MR: Well first off, there are no PowerPoints. We are meeting in a relaxed setting and the added skiing and hiking in the Utah mountains creates a winter camp environment. It's deeply relaxing and the antithesis to a lot of the tension folks may be feeling-especially inside the Beltway these days!

Avalon: What kind of speakers do you recruit to participate?

MR: Presenters have ranged from a cardiologist to a cosmetic CEO. This year, we have speakers coming from the White House press corps and the marketing team at Atlanta United FC. Our speakers help to foster creative collisions and opportunities to generate knowledge from others who have unique perspectives not frequently seen in daily life.

Avalon: Thanks for completing our Avalon CPP(Cognitive Peak Profile) Assessment. Your unique scoring is compelling and identifies you as an Active Associative thinker--meaning you are a “Dot Connector." You are at your best when you can gain insights and meaning exchanging ideas around a central theme. How do you relate that to what you do at Brigadoon?

MR: At the end of the day, my deeper commitment and central theme for this event is to be a curator of talent and ideas ensuring all participants leave smarter and more energized. I am always open to the hows and whys of Brigadoon, and each year we start from a blank slate. In the end, we hope all attendees leave with positive insights and goals--as well as being invigorated and excited!

The Wired To Lead™ podcast is continuously refreshed with new guests sharing their unique perspectives on thinking, leadership, business, sports and real life challenges. Topics are varied, and each segment is formatted as a roundtable discussion that begins with an exploration of the guest's unique cognitive preferences and a discussion of how they translate their thought processing into leadership skills and positive strategies for success.

“Our Avalon team has a wealth of experience in positive and purposeful leadership as well as developing an individual's unique strengths," offers co-host Cameron Gott. “This show is a free flowing conversation that engages listeners and offers suggestions for how they can maximize their innate assets and match action with intention." Smith states, “I really love the storytelling aspect of this format and also getting to the 'so what.'" By this, he indicates, "We are focused on discovering our guest's actionable strategies and practices that our audience can tap into easily and quickly."
